Mededeling voor de parochianen van de parochie H. Ursula en gezellen en de parochie Onze Lieve Vrouw van Sion

Geachte parochianen,

Sinds september vorig jaar heeft pastor Eli Stok in het kader van zijn sabbat drie maanden gewerkt aan zijn verdere studies. Ondanks het overlijden van pastoor Verbakel werd daarna afgesproken dat hij nog extra tijd zou krijgen om de eerste fase van zijn verdere studies af te ronden. Dit laatste is zeker gelukt.

Gedurende de tijd van zijn sabbat en daarna heeft pastor Stok ook met extra begeleiding nagedacht over de indringende vraag of hij zijn werk als priester weer zou oppakken of niet. Deze indringende vraag of hij zijn dienstwerk als priester zou blijven uitoefenen hield hem persoonlijk ook daarvoor al geruime tijd bezig.

Op weg naar Pasen moet ik aan u de verdrietige mededeling doen dat pastor Eli Stok tot het besluit is gekomen dat hij zijn dienstwerk als priester zal beëindigen. Pastor Eli is tot zijn keuze gekomen tijdens een traject van persoonlijke en geestelijke begeleiding. Gedurende de bezinning in de afgelopen maanden is hij tot de conclusie gekomen dat hij niet goed invulling kan blijven geven aan het priesterschap dat hem is toevertrouwd en aan de verwachtingen die daarmee verbonden zijn.

Ik besef dat de keuze die Eli Stok weloverwogen heeft gemaakt u als parochianen en teamleden diep zal raken. Dat geldt ook voor de collega’s en gelovigen elders in ons bisdom en voor mijzelf als bisschop.

De komende tijd zal ik met de leden van het pastoraal team en de parochiebesturen afstemmen wanneer en op welke wijze in de parochies afscheid zal worden genomen van pastor Eli Stok. Sinds 2017 heeft hij in uw midden gewerkt en gewoond.

Eli heeft benadrukt dat hij de band met parochianen en collega’s als warm en positief heeft ervaren. Hij is dankbaar voor de ondersteuning en verbondenheid die hij de afgelopen jaren heeft ontvangen en heeft kunnen geven.

Op weg naar Pasen vraag ik uw gebed voor pastor Eli Stok, voor de leden van het pastoraal team en voor uw parochiegemeenschappen. Dat we samen in geloof de band met de verrezen Heer en met elkaar mogen blijven bewaren en verdiepen.

Ik beloof u als bisschop ook in deze tijd mijn verbondenheid in gebed. Tevens zal ik in de komende tijd Eli Stok blijven ondersteunen ter voorbereiding op zijn toekomstige weg. De aanvulling van uw pastoraal team blijft mijn aandacht houden, in afstemming met het team en de parochiebesturen.

Announcement for the parishioners of the parish St. Ursula and companions and the parish Our Lady of Zion

Dear parishioners,

Since September last year, Fr. Eli Stok has worked on his studies in the context of his sabbatical. Even though Fr. Verbakel had passed away, the agreement was made that he would receive extra time to complete the first phase of his continued studies. In this, he has certainly succeeded.

During his sabbatical and afterwards, with extra guidance, Fr. Stok has considered the existential question whether to resume his work as a priest or not. This existential question, whether he would continue to exercise his priestly ministry, had occupied his mind for quite some time before.

On the way to Easter, I have to make the sad announcement that Fr. Eli Stok has come to the decision to end his active ministry as a priest. Fr. Eli has reached his choice while following a program of personal and spiritual guidance. During the time of reflection over the past months, he has reached the conclusion that he cannot continue in the priesthood that has been entrusted to him and to fulfill the obligations connected to this.

I realize that the choice that Eli Stok has made after careful consideration, will affect you deeply as parishioners and fellow members of the pastoral team. The same goes for the colleagues and the faithful in other parts of our diocese, and for myself as bishop.

In the upcoming time, I will discuss with the members of the pastoral team and the parish boards when and how the parishes can say goodbye to Fr. Eli Stok. Since 2017, he has lived and worked in your midst.

Eli has emphasized that he has experienced the connection with parishioners and colleagues as warm and positive. He is grateful for the support and closeness which he has received and which he has been able to give over the past years.

On the way to Easter, I ask for your prayers for Fr. Eli Stok, for the members of the pastoral team, and for your parish communities. That, united in faith, we may continue to keep and to deepen the connection with the risen Lord and with each other.

As bishop, I pledge to you my connection in prayer during this time. I will also continue to support Eli Stok in the coming time, as a preparation for his future path. I will keep possible additions to your pastoral team under attention, and will coordinate this with the team and the parish boards.
